It is that time of year again, where the kids are wearing wet weather gear more often than not. It comes around so quickly! rainSplats are designed as a less bulky alternative to traditional wellies.
rainSplats sporty waterproof boots, perfect for spring showers, summer rain & autumn downpours. For kids who love to run, climb, scoot & best of all splash!
I am normally the kind of mum who just buys the cheap wellies at the supermarket, and to be honest they have always done us just fine. My first impressions when I looked on the Splats website was that they looked nice, I loved the colours, but they seemed rather pricey. They retail at £38.00 which is about the same as I would normally spend on a pair of school shoes. They do look much more like traditional day to day boots rather than rubber wellies though, and the sole especially appealed as it appeared a lot less slippy looking than normal boots.
When the Splats arrived, I could see exactly why they cost the same as day to day shoes! The quality is absolutely spot on. They pull on like a normal wellington but do up around the leg with a velcro strip. It is all really well sewn and looks like it will withstand a lot of use. My daughter (Emma) squealed with delight when she saw the new bright pink boots for her to try on! It was a rainy day, so she wanted to wear them right away for an after school walk. Because they fit well around the foot and leg, it makes Splats more difficult to get on than normal wellies and Emma (five and a half years old) was unable to get them on without assistance. But once they were on she was really pleased about how comfortable they are.
I also love the little touches, like the reflective logo on the back of the boots, the funky soles, and the simple looking design. But more importantly they are waterproof, warm and very comfortable. We also had the chance to try them out in some light snow too, and they worked very well. One concern I did have was that Emma has very narrow feet and ankles, and the website states that the sizing is generous. She does have to wear big socks with them, but that is the case with wellies too. However, the velcro ankle strap works well for keeping the boot in place, which I think makes it much easier to walk and run in for a slim legged child.
Emma said they were just as comfortable as normal shoes, easy to run in, and perfect for jumping in muddy puddles! I asked her for one word to describe them and she replied with “brilliant”! I have to say, I am convinced! I just wish they made them in smaller sizes (they start at size UK8) as my toddler is very put out about not having anything so nice to wear in the rain.
rainSplats are available on the Splats website, and cost £38.00 plus postage and packaging.
